This was one of the typical ‘murder bottles’ which were responsible for the death of thousands of babies as the rubber tube connecting the bottle with the teat created the perfect environment for bacterial growth and was impossible to wash. . The ratio of infant survival to the age of 2 at the time was 2 to 10.
